Overheard at the Video Store

Conversation I heard:

GIRL: Have you seen Shaun of the Dead?
GUY: *mutters response*
GIRL: I haven't, but I heard it was retarded.
**puts DVD back**
**a minute passes**
GIRL: Have you seen Seed of Chucky? It was good!

I was dumbfounded and it was all I could do to keep myself from saying louder, "Have you smoked yourself stupid?" I felt so sorry for the guy. Or maybe he likes his girls that stupid. My hubby had to hold me back.

I honestly can't see how something that has launched Penn to industry front and center could be compared to the career sinker that is Seed of Chucky. It makes puppies cry.

Flowers are Pretty

New news today in the News blog. People get more clever everyday.

Two new products that have caught my eye.
Back in the day I used to play the Oregon Trail games... alas poor Sierra, we knew them well. Some charming young folk have paid homage with this tee shirt. That always sucked when it happened to my family. I always tried to keep around extra meat and water for that. Even medicine didn't always work.

For my husband, who likes to say this Christopher Walken line, "It needs more cowbell."

Here's a transcript of that SNL.
I'll be honest.. fellas, it was sounding great. But.. I could've used a little more cowbell. So.. let's take it again.

Wish I Was There

Neat item- a CD/DVD scratcher to destroy your data. Don't break your shredder!

There are two movie blogs up. Phantom of the Opera and Blade Trinity. There- I promised two. The others will get done when they get done. I'm going to read now and wish I was home.

I leave you with this gem- Quite thoughtful advice.
http://www.gapingvoid.com/Moveable_Type/archives/000823.html
:How to have smarter conversations.

1. Understand why what you're offering to do for other people is interesting, important, meaningful etc then start telling people about it.

Think about this one. Hard. If you don't know, then how will other people know? Exactly. They won't.

Will CC for Honey Nut Cheerios

Going to try and bang out a couple of reviews today if the inhabitants of this workplace deem it allowable. Meantime, here is a little something something I scribbled:

Bird of Paradise

Full of missing you
devours me completely
Swallowing me up, my regret
that I cannot be with you.
It makes me listen
to a slower song
So that maybe I can still
imagine I am still embracing you.

Petty Comments and Pithy Remarks

There really isn't too much of a difference between petty and pithy other than the fact one has meaning and one does not. But they both describe wordage in general terms, such beautiful adjectives. Fatty words.

New book article. Very Pithy.
New news stuff. Slightly petty, one humanitarian story though!

EDIT: More stuff, is more candy for your monkey! Two new entries for your entertainment perusal. Or whatever

Too Much News

Ok, updates all around the board. I'm not going to bother with my reasons why. Suffice to say I have a lot to relate in here.

Neat item #1 A chinese take-out purse/lunch box. Its zippered too.

Neat item #2 How to be creative blog Some useful and down earth advice on creativity and practicality. Don't open up at work. You have been warned.

Neat item #3 Hawaii adventure - Don't sit on your butt, get out there and explore the outside of the resort.

So me and my husband have reactivated our City of Heroes accounts. I'm psyched since the superhero thing has a lot of combinations and options. Plus, I never got higher than level 11, so there is still a lot of the game I haven't played or been in yet. That happened just a couple of days ago.

Friday my husband got a job offer and should start his new job on this coming monday.. yay! We still need to pick up a couple things before the end of the weekend though. Thank goodness for tax free sales.

Also have been trying to straighten myself out some more, I think I really need to sit down and think for a while. I've left a lot of things behind as far as interests because they are childish, and yet I'm still carrying around a lot of the physical reminders of them. Its like going through your old room and picking up the things that you can carry into your adult life. A lot of the clothes won't fit anymore, and you don't even like a lot of the same books or toys that you kept around because you used to. I need to sit down and sort out what things those are.

New game article written up today. Hot! fresh!
New Book Log article too. Mostly talking about que'd things and progress.
News Blog- for your amusement!

A Quarter to Anyone that Cares

Applause, hold your applause, I finally finished the Shadow Rising and wrote my review of it all in the same day.

I know nobody really cares.

BAH.

Edit: Review of Kalifornia for you too.

Typing and Geeks

There is a $500 keyboard for you.
My focus is on the Das Keyboard and DX1 Keyboard. Because it would really freak someone out to see me typing on a keyboard that has no letters printed on it and an arrangeable keyboard would be so nice when I am trying to use a couple programs and games that use the ctrl, shift, and alt keys a lot. It would be a lot less to try and balance on my lap without banging the numpad into my mouse hand.

What keys would I need to use in Photoshop and Maya...
[]=- home insert delete shift f g t y b 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ctrl alt dlt
In between my programable mouse keys... that DX1 would be perfect.

Sweet Roses

We had a large group of lawyers take over the conference center last week, remember? Well, aparently they had roses at the final banquet they had this weekend. Beautiful apricot-orangey blossoms that developed dark red tips. A hybrid of between old fashioned and something else vaguely tea rose shaped petals. I couldn't really find a reference for it on the internet.

They had grapevines curled up in fishbowls with the stems twining out, was very gorgeous... they were simply letting the leftover blossoms get ruined by the water over the weekend. So I grabbed about three yesterday to take home and have a bunch of seven on my desk in a makeshift vase i.e. one plastic cup with the base of another punctured and cut in half to nest upside down. It holds the blossoms up without them falling over. A nice effect since the cup is clear. Very sweet and heady scent. I'll probably leave these here for color.

Anyway, updates in the News Blog and Book Blog. Entertainment Blog has a couple entries qued up for this week or the next.

I'm going to be here at work a lot, but also trying to finish up this work related project so I can make better forum graphics than what are currently in place. Then, I get to be creative again. New reel. Because I don't think we'll be able to move out of the apartment we are in currently. I guess I should hang some crap up on the walls so it doens't look as depressing. And a little more furniture. I don't know how long it will take to get a couch though. Maybe when I get next years tax return.

I like this little guy.

Game Review Day

Too busy today to have much else to say.. I got up too late for work to get my shower and breakfast. The only good part is I've been so out of my mind bloody busy that it's almost one o'clock and my head is starting to feel like it's not whirling around on my neck. Maybe after I get some paperwork done and visit all my websites I can finish Shadow Rising. Yeah. I installed Kingdom Under Fire (the old pc game) on my computer last night to see the game behind KUF: Crusades. Old, but I like it so far.

Enjoy.

Cool Kid Things

Deckaider™ Gem™ Set this is the kind of cool stuff I like.
In order to preserve their precise dimensions, these 'Precision Edge™' dice, are not polished when they come out of the mold. Any small surface imperfections are purely cosmetic, and do not make the dice roll unfairly. In fact, Gamescience 'Precision Edge™' dice are the fairest and most durable polyhedral dice on the market.
Sweet. Read more about these beauties here. GJ Advancing Hordes, you've just earned a spot in my favorite links.

Sleeping Working and Pillaging My Rotten Guts Out

News Section Rant Old news but still interesting stuff. I had one day where I had about three articles/posts worth of stuff. Considering how slow and unamusing it all can be some days, I saved it like I do leftovers in the fridge sometimes. Sorry sweetie. :D You know my love for you is like science experiments. Cool and held close for a very long time and grows too.

Speaking of smells, the ladies bathroom at work for the past couple of weeks is really fruity. They've apparently changed out the scent to something that reminds me of Froot Loops. I am not telling tales on this one. I wash my hands and I wish I had a cereal bowl with me.

The work schedule has been a mess, my part timer's last day was today. I saw the amusing want ad in sunday's paper too. Must be able to work Saturdays. Damn skippy. I don't want them all. Someone please apply that is nice and flexible. please. Oo_ Before the end of July.

So, more about my birthday. Went and worked for four hours, we had buffalo onions and coleslaw for dinner (yum yum! mmm!)- believe me, this stuff is fantastic. I ate almost two plates. Later I took myself to Brusters and had a brownie sundae. oooh I wish I could have one now.... later. Large warm brownie with lots of hot fudge and a ball of vanilla icecream with enough whipped cream to make it baked Alaska style. wow. For less than $5. Lovely. I can't remember too much more, I remember it was raining most of the day and I sat and read. It was quite relaxing, I don't get that much anymore. The next day I cashed in my back massage.

The day before was eventful too, my sweet darling husband was going to cook a huge dinner for me until the meat patties he was cooking bloodied themselves and half the kitchen, including the large pasta pot with seasoned water. Grease and meat mess everywhere. He was very put out. HE was trying to convince me to go get myself takeout rather than try to clean up and eat really really late just to clean up the kitchen a second time. I said lets go get the mail. I know I must've posted something about the tenth of June when Bennigans tried to serve him undercooked steak and raw salmon. I emailed corporate, lo, in the mail was a very tidy apology letter and a $40 gift card. Mmmm, dinner. We went to a different one. Very quiet and late, we stayed for a couple hours and had a nice meal. Blew the whole thing. Not hard for us. I got shrimp. mmm. Took me an hour to get the kitchen clean.

Speaking of which, that has always been a challenge for me to try and keep the kitchen tidy every night. Dont know why. Been trying very hard lately. Can't seem to keep the laundry killed either. grr. I need hangars.

Yesterday had a friend contact me that he had just started a blog. Old college chum from back in TN. I think I shocked him by replying. Though the last time I talked to him was to tell him a year ago I got hitched.
Also, found a reply from [Solar]... Never thought I'd get a reply. So as most of you can imagine, my jaw DROPPED. ((side note: [Solar], you owe me a new computer desk... cracked my keyboard deck... lol))

You should know that I am NEVER responsible for collateral damage like that, bro. People have always understood I'm a natural hazard- they take caution and understand the risk involved. I'll pass around the duct tape, but I'm sure that I would buy myself a desk before I buy you a new one. The current setup is known as freestyle. The monitor and tower sit on the floor, and I sit my chair with my keyboard on lap- mouse on clipboard on armrest. I am the picture of balance. Behold wireless, and it is beautiful. It's also called cheap and gypsy because nothing sucks like breaking down a desk to move.

I want to play Soul Calibur 2, but we still have the rentals until Saturday. bah, I'll never get past the hoverboard race in Conker. :/ Tomorrow I'll try to write a bit in the book log and entertainment blog. People need to stay home, I can't read with them typing!!

Sweets-tooth

Oatmeal cookies are possible without butter and eggs. Don't let the public fool you. They can still taste good- Here's the rough outline.

3c oatmeal quick or old fashioned
1 1/2 c brown sugar-packed
1-1/2 c self-rising flour (add up to 1/2c more if needed to soak up excess milk)
2T cinnamon
1/2c oil (I used olive)
2c raisins (I would soak them first to plump instead of dried)
2c of milk

Ended up putting in a couple of quick pours more of milk and three or four hands of flour i.e. putting a clean hand in the flour and making a fist of what you can hold. I made it a little too thick this way.. I would maybe add two handfuls tops.. needs to be a little thicker than cake batter texture. But NOT near as thick as dough. That will take too long and be very dry.

Grease and lightly flour or non-stick coat a 9x13 pan.
Mixed and layered bottom of 9x13 pan 1/2 deep to make bars.

I set the oven for 350 and the first batch took almost 40 minutes to get done.
Second batch was 4 jumbo drop cookies at 400, took 25.
Third batch was more bar cookies at 380 and took less than 30 to make.. maybe twenty.. I don't remember. But that was two hours of my day on the Fourth of July. They're almost all gone now...

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot the flour! Still a popular recipe!

Calmly Going Mad

More reviews I need to do- finished watching The Incredibles, hope to finish Vanity Fiar today. Past couple of days saw Secondhand Lions and Till Human Voices Wake Us. Also read the Hellboy Seeds of Destruction graphic novel. Halfway through Shadow Rising! Yay! Have the Iron Tower trilogy, Redeeming the Lost, and a greek mythology book checked out I need to get read in between more WoT. Hubby is already on Winter's Heart... number nine. Geez. Nice to know I've been working on SR since the 16th of June. Horrible. It looks like I'm back dated on lots of reviews. Oh well.

Insert minor irritation: work related here.

Been playing Conker Live & Reloaded since friday night. Amazing, a game that I have been playing for four consecutive days? Up to the hoverboard race atm have ten hours logged in.

Publix meat officially sucks, this is the second time in less than five days and from two seperate stores that I have gotten brown meat covered by fresh looking meat. First time was a shocker, some of the organic meat they chop up was all browned in their middles while looking juicy on top. Ick. Last night got two pounds of normal chopped sirloin... again looks good, except for the pieces of older looking meat in the middles. No more on-site rendered meat from publix, that's low business practice. Winn-Dixie from now on. I hope they don't do any of that here, because it would be sad to get better meat from Wal-Mart when its already a couple of days old when its received there.

Update:News Post Averaging about once a week updates in the news section.. woo hoo!

Edit: Also doing about bi-weekly on the entertainment section. Sorry! UPDATED
