So 15 days later...

So as they say in the movies, it is now later. In summary, so far my new job is the coolest in the world and the people that I work with are super awesome. I've kicked WoW for what is likely the last time with the main fact in mind being what a security risk it is to keep patching all the crap from Blizzard. Sorry I'm not paying fifteen a month to get hacked because the designers think its a good idea. Also... my mouse is sort of messing with me now, and while I was looking at the Microsoft Wireless 6000 I looked up my old flame- the wacom tablet.

I've settled my high hopes on the more realistic graphire range. It'd be my first tablet and its not such a risk to sink less than $200 than it is over $500. But oooh, what they have done now with the Intuos (topline)3 series... they've brought in the wide format. It made happy pants. I don't want to look at the pricetag. 6x11 and the bigger badder 12x19.

Beware the Ides of March, Caesar!

Just had to throw that in. Thanks Ms. M.G. I still remember toga day. And all the -->hilarious<-- pictures of everyone else that day too. The lengths a sophomore will go to for extra credit are amazing.

Kinda cleaning up things here at work since I'm putting in my notice today.

Lovely horoscope for today:
Conditions are unstable. Don't take anything for granted. Assume that if things can go wrong they will, and have a backup plan.
Things are always unstable. Jeez. It was the crystal ball's day off so we had to pick up Murphey's Law?

Hope this isn't an article I've posted before. Fresh Possibilities
A Lexington startup is developing food labels that change color to signal the freshness of packaged meat in the local supermarket, detecting spoilage right through the wrap.
Now that's a smart idea.

Update for my favorite daily/weekly comics:

Something Positive
Player Versus Player
Girl Genius
Order of the Stick
Scary Go Round
Penny Arcade
Penny and Aggie
AppleGeeks
Alien Dice (mostly to remind myself how hard it is for a person to just live off the income of online comics)
My Nodwick placeholder in the archives

Then I check my emails, look on the library website. Found a tiered skirt template. Troll a little bit on the World of Warcraft Forums.

Ho hum.

The Virus or the Anti-Virus

I hate McAFee back from an incident about six years ago. Absolutely ineffectual against blocking threats at the time. So I pounce with particular glee upon this news article.
McAfee update causes havoc

While excel.exe was the most affected, the list of exe files released by McAfee as having affected by the update was of seven pages. Users complained that the anti-virus programme tried to remove files including Perl, Sysinternals' PcTools suite, various Oracle binaries, Dell OpenManage, Google Toolbar installer and programs that run Macromedia Flash Player, Sun's Java application and Adobe update manager.

The system either deleted the concerned files or removed them into a separate folder as per settings decided by the user. McAfee claimed the files were moved or deleted during scheduled or manual scans and not during background scanning

Of course the patch was patched.

These programs apparently translated into clear system threats to the coding population at McAfee. They were assimilated.

ha.

Cute Things

Mechandise posting, since I was bored.

Leafy fairies on a tank top.

Luck Fairy cap sleeve with kitty... with night elf ears.

I found my laser mouse, and it's only 45$. The new Microsoft 6000 (guess they had to make it a higher number than the Logitech one) still runs off of batteries. I think that's awesome because I can still get NiMh rechargables on my time, budget, and quantity. Beats the heck out of the G7 mouse. Screw hot swapping batteries that only last a few hours.

Inigo is on a tee! "My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father," below his image, and "Prepare to die" is on the back. :D

Death Cannot Stop True Love - so true! I think this is the best Princess Bride shirt of the lot.

But for old times sake there is nothing like a comfortable white t-shirt. So cute.

Ok I'm done now.

Anyone want a peanut?

Addendum

Tailoring in Wow - a quick list of links since all the information I wanted to know WASN'T in one place.

To do list for 3/10
  • Water
  • BB

    EDIT: Done

    3/14 - 14 ok until further notice

-Need to create a cut n' paste study book on customs & demonstrations for SFS project

  • The Crux of it All

I think a small era has probably ceased. Can't say as it was a true surprise because good things never seem to last when they are held together only tentatively. So until time runs out, I will gleefully run around shortly with my husband as a warlock duo. Much chaos will ensue I assure you. I play to have fun, and I'll get it one way or another. Much luck to the individuals I am thinking of, but their chances at success in current endeavors- I wouldn't place any bets.

"Ch-ch-changes! Turn and face the strange!" - David Bowie

Long news article - Buying Power & Our Food.

Time to try and get that squirrely idea running and play some serious Earthdawn.

And finish that one last map in Frozen Throne.

    Do What You Gotta Do

Just pray for me today, shake a chicken foot, kiss an irish rock- something.
I need some good voo doo kicking today.
    I'll explain later.

And since I didn't have much to say, here's something that I think is a smart idea (unlike the author of the article). Foot Flush
Herbst says he spent two years perfecting the $29.95 Foot Flush into the "revolutionary" new product it is today. He says it hooks up to your home toilet in less than 2 minutes without tools. "It's not just a great idea anymore. It's a great product," Herbst said. "It's been tested to 800,000 flushes." Singer/songwriter Eric Herbst — he says his songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash and B.B. King — came up with idea for the Foot Flush after performing in bars and nightclubs with dirty bathrooms. Herbst didn't want to touch the toilet handle, so he would flush with his foot. One day after a gig, he grabbed a bass drum pedal, some string, walked into his bathroom, and the rest is sanitation history.

    Which Way Now?

So my on-site boss (and the only person at the company that seems to genuinely respect me) is giving 30 days notice today. He hasn't told anyone else yet. Can't say as I blame him, he's being offered better health and stock as well as pay and a more stable schedule that will let him be with his family more.

This sucks because now how is he going to help me negotiate better terms for my job? hahaha. Guess I need to buck now. Crap. Unless I can somehow put pressure on people since I'll obviously be heavily helping whomever is being put in as replacement. I wouldn't take up the job myself, it is a 24-7 job.

But why does it feel like something is unraveling underneath me?
